Delaware City and Dover Updates

Posted: June 7, 2006

Brothers and Sisters: We would like to bring you up to date on several issues that are of great importance to IBEW Local 1238 and its members. As you are aware, we represent the employees at the Mckee Run Power Plant in Dover, DE. The contract between IBEW Local 1238 and Duke Energy (who held the O&M contract at the facility) is set to expire on June 30, 2006. We will be entering into negotiations with North American Energy Services (who has been awarded the new O & M contract at the facility) in the near future. We have tentatively agreed to extend the current contract for a period of 90 days to allow for time to negotiate with the new Company. We have already been notified that North American Energy Services (NAES) intends to operate the facility with a reduced staff and that 2 union positions will be eliminated. The affected employees have already been notified of the intended changes and the officers of our Local are working diligently to negotiate a severance package for our Brothers in this trying time. We would like to thank those Brothers for their years of service and offer our support in their future endeavors. In regards to the upcoming negotiations with NAES, we are looking for interested members, employed at the Mckee Run Power Plant, and in good standing with IBEW Local 1238 to be a part of the negotiating committee. If you are interested, please use the “Contact Us” portion of the site and forward your name and telephone number. We will be posting updates on this site as to the start date of the NAES negotiations. Along the same lines of business, Business Manager John Boulden, Assistant Business Manager Paul Simon, and President Steve Newberry met with Valero on 6/5/06 and 6/6/06 to discuss the future of the employees at the Delaware City Power Facility. This was the first meeting with Valero and things went fairly well. There is a meeting for the Delaware City shop stewards scheduled on 6/7/06 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the information presented in the aforementioned meetings. John Boulden will also be present at the Delaware City the all hands meeting at 11:30 a.m. on 6/8/06 to share information and answer questions. Now that the process has begun with Valero, we will be sharing information regularly with the members so be sure to check with your shop stewards and on the web site for postings.
