Update

Brothers and Sisters, It’s time to bring you up to date on some key issues that are happening within the Local. I would like to start by reminding you that we are conducting our Union Meetings at our new hall located at 6 Larch Ave. Wilmington, DE. 19804 at 7:00 P.M. All members are always welcome to attend the meetings and we look forward to your participation in the future. Secondly, I would like to remind you that you can go to the “For Our Members” area of our site and sign up for email notifications. You will receive an email letting you know when new information is posted on the site. Please take the time to sign up for notifications. Your information will not be used for any other purpose than to send communications from our site. In regards to Union Business, we have made great strides in reducing our grievances over the last couple of months and have come to resolutions on many of the issues without having to go to the arbitration step of the process. Currently, we have 6 active grievances with one at the arbitration step. A majority of our grievances (including our pending arbitration) have been generated from our members in the Carney’s Point facility. We were scheduled to hold arbitration on 2/6/07 for the grievance around “shifts by productivity.” That meeting has been cancelled by the Company and will be rescheduled by the arbitrator. We are currently waiting for a new date for that arbitration and will communicate the new date to you when we receive that information. The Business Managers of Local 1238 along with our International Representative conducted shop steward training in the month of December. The International has always conducted generic shop stewards training but we decided to take a different approach. We customized a training session for Local 1238 shop stewards which were comprised of information pertaining to our contracts. The idea behind this is to better equip our stewards with the information and knowledge to serve the membership. I would like to thank all of our stewards for the attending the training and doing a great job day in and day out. We have already seen the benefits of the training and plan to conduct similar sessions in the future. Finally, I would like to touch on our Local 1238 safety initiatives. We are still moving forward with our monthly Safety Committee Meetings with much success. As mentioned in our last communication, we have bolstered support from our members to participate in running our SAC meetings across the property. The minutes from those meetings will be reviewed at our monthly Safety Committee Meetings to assure that issues are being addressed in a timely, productive fashion. We encourage everyone’s participation when it comes to safety and we especially want to thank our members that are participating and making a difference as leaders in safety. Lastly, we would like to bring you up to date on the Square One (peer to peer) process. The Steering Committee has been meeting on a regular basis and working tirelessly to get this process up and running. We look forward to implementing this process in the near future. We have received a great deal of positive feedback from our members in regards to these safety initiatives and we appreciate your support. The Officers of Local 1238 will continue to work hard to provide you with a safe work environment. Thanks you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at the next Union Meeting.
