Local 1238 Newsletter

Posted: November 22, 2005

Hello Brothers and Sisters. One of the many reasons the officers of Local 1238 put together a web site is to have a better means of communication with our members. We will be posting to the site frequently so be sure to stop by often. Under the “For Our Members” section, you will see a place to register for email notifications. Please sign up for our email notifications so that you can be notified as to any new information being posted to the site. We have taken heightened security measures to keep your information safe and we assure you that your information will only be used for Local 1238 business. Charity and Events As many of you know, the officers and members of Local 1238 take pride in playing an active role in our community by donating time and money to local charities. We would like to take the time to update the membership on our current activities. Each year, AFL-CIO Community Services has a food drive to assist union members and their families whom have fallen on hard times. This year, the fund was deficient and we asked our members for help in raising money to assist what we feel is a very worthy cause. We would like to take the time to thank each and every member of Local 1238, the various trades working at the Delaware City Power Plant and various management personnel over the Delmarva Power property in helping to feed the people that really need our help this Holiday Season. We were able to raise $1300.00 which was just enough to get everything that was needed to take care of those in need. Also, on December 8, 2005, Local 1238 has volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army at the Governor’s Square K-mart. We are still looking to fill some time slots between 12-4 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please use the “Contact Us” section of the site or call us at the Union Hall. Benefits In the next few weeks, you will be receiving information via mail about changes that are taking place in our 401(k) plan. The Company has gone over the changes with the Union and all of the changes of which we were made aware are positive. We encourage you to read carefully through the paperwork and if you have any questions, please call the PHI Benefits Hotline. Policies At our last union meeting on November 8, 2005, Local 1238 Business Manager John Boulden made reference to the Company’s intent to change the disciplinary policy around sick leave. The Union has received a “recommended revision” from the Company however there have been no changes made as of yet. There will be more information to come at future Union meetings which are open to all members in good standing held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Holiday Inn at I-95 and Rte. 273 at 7:00 p.m. In closing, we, the Officers of Local 1238, would like to wish you all a very happy & safe Thanksgiving.
